About:
I create mixed media sculptures, drawings and prints. With my
work I combine organic and industrial materials, often found or recycled,
to explore and challenge systems of culture. Both Influenced and haunted
by the idea of an uninhabited or desolate landscape, my work materializes
futuristic personas and conjures feelings of immediacy, warning, and imminent
collapse. With all my work I am confronting fears of the unknown with
biological ambiguity, unsettling humor and strange imagery.
I take inspiration from art movements as far ranging as Surrealism to
contemporary Japanese anime and manga style cartoons. I am particularly
interested in movements that have responded to the realities of mechanical
and nuclear warfare. The immediate threat of unconscionable violence adds
urgency to my work in both practice and product and the idea of a post-apocalyptic
landscape is a recurring theme in many of my pieces. I have also been
inspired by American movements in landart and from the Italian Arte Povera
movement.
